Absolutely. Over more than twenty years, I have had countless clients tell me they had more interviews and better offers after working with me to write their resume.

Resume writing pricing can vary greatly. For my service, fees range between $200-$400. This service includes a review of 5-10 job posts to analyze the market, a 45–60-minute interview to develop content for the resume, writing, and editing. Unlike resume builder services in which the client never speaks to the writer, I believe in and value collaboration with my clients.

I would recommend looking at five factors: 1. Experience: How long has the writer you are working with been in business? Experience matters. Many larger companies hire writers with limited experience. I have worked as a career coach and resume writer since 2001. 2. Transparency: Does the writer offer samples? Is he/she willing to answer your questions? There is no standard model for resume writing. I put samples on my website, and after finishing free consultations with client, I send them more specific samples. 3. Testimonials: Do they have reviews? Are those reviews on multiple websites? Reviews of my work can be found on Google, Yelp, LinkedIn, and my website. 4. Service or Product: Does the writer’s website talk about how he/she is going to help you, or is it all about what they want to sell? I tailor my services to each client and what they need. 5. Collaboration: Does the writer work with you, or are you just filling out a question? I talk with my clients at every stage of the project. Many come back to me to update their resume, and they refer their family and friends.

A resume is a marketing document. Large companies like Microsoft and McDonalds pay marketing companies to help shape their message. You should do the same by hiring a resume to make you look good to employers. In writing your resume, I focus on what the employer wants.

Since each project involves conversations between you and me, most projects take about a week. If you need a project to be expedited, I will do my best to meet those goals.

Some people will claim to be “the best.” I’m not that arrogant. However, I know that my clients have been successful because of my skills as a career consultant and resume writer. How do I know that? When clients come to me for updates, I see how they have progressed in their careers and reached their goals.

Some people believe they should update their resume as soon as they get a new job. In most cases, I do not agree. What do you know about a job until you’ve worked at it for at least a few months? I recommend updating the resume when you are ready to start looking for work. I also urge clients to update the resume with a focus on the job they are pursuing, not the one they are leaving behind.

For most people a career change resume is about showing why you are qualified. For some people that is based on completion of a new degree or certification. For others, it is based on development of transferable skills. In helping clients change careers, I write resumes that speak to the employers’ need by using what was learned in school or transferable skills learned on the job.
